  • Old DT25 Outboard stops when engaging reverse.

Hi there i'm new to these forums and not sure how to go on.
The problem I have is my old DT25 cuts out when I try to get reverse.
The serial number is D-12296 and it's a two stroke I can't find the age.
The guy I bought it off had it about 6 years and I've had it about 12 and only used as a back up.
Any constructive ideas would be greatly appreciated.

The serial number "D-"12296, indicates it may be 1978. In '77 they used "C-", and in '79 they used "F-" before the serial number. This is my best guess on your year motor. Based on what your ser# is.

Your '78 Dt-25 parts page shows a neutral switch, does your motor have one?
Can you describe how the motor runs in neutral, and forward?
Do you know about what rpms the motor idles at, does the motor run well except when engaging reverse?
Does the motor sit-up for long periods of time, 1

A little more help may help us, help you.

    Post back on your problems.

      Hi Solarman.
      Nice to meet you.
I've had the motor in the tub this morning and,
It will not start in gear,
Only starts in neutral, it runs and revs ok.
Runs from tick over to good revs in forward gear.
      Neutral to reverse it stops.
      I don't have a rev counter.
      Pot 1 has 85psi
      Pot 2 has 75psi
(And it pees like the rag mans horse)
