  • 2001 DF90 Lower unit on a 2011 DF90??

Long story short: I blew my head gasket and got water in my oil and now have bad compression on three cylinders on my 2001 DF90 (SN# 09001F-1511xx). I stumbled on a local guy selling a 2011 DF90 (SN 09003F-1112xx) for a good price that seems to only need a lower unit. Can I take my 2001 lower unit and bolt it on the 2011 head without major issues?

The part data doesn't match up so I think this is a dead-end, but then I read other posts that say this might be possible with some performance hit and only might need a different prop due to gear ratio being different.

Has anyone tried this? Is it possible with just small performance hit?

    Thanks for any feedback.

2009 was the first year of the “A” series models. If you look at the 2008 gear case you get quite the selection of models and years that might fit your 2001. 2011 is probably a no go.

Scroll down to the bottom and you’ll find a list the the gear case was shared with different models.

I also think it might be a NO.

The A series Df90’s from 2009 were a different engine - they were part of the DF70-90 series that are based on a 1.5 litre block, whereas before, the 90/100/115/140 engines were all the same 2.0litre block.
