  • Shifting Issue

I have a 2000 DF140 that has developed a shifting issue. Started getting difficult to shift into reverse with grinding. Son took the boat out hunting yesterday and it wouldn't shift into reverse for awhile and then it did again with the grinding. I adjusted the cable and motor shifts into forward and reverse but there is a hard clunk and some grinding. doesnt seem to matter about the adjustment it still grinds. Also the noise appears to be at the power head area and not down low. Thanks in advance for any help.

Think I would have Suzuki shop check it out. Sounds like the gears, shift-dog worn, not engaging smoothly, in the foot/gear case, sounds can echo to the powerhead. If motor is idling too fast when shifting into gear, you could get some of those noises? But that doesn't sound too good. Get it checked before something major happens.

Good luck, post back on what you find out.
