  • Low compression

Hey all, I’m working on a 40 hp suzuki and we can’t get it running properly it will often start about right away, but then it doesn’t want to start back up again, other than just firing. we did test compression and could only get like 70/75psi from both cylinders. That’s probably to low is that correct?

Borrow another tester and verify your results unless your sure your gauge is giving accurate readings.

Would they possibly have had a compression release?

With those numbers it’s best to be sure they are correct. To fix low compression you could be getting into many dollars to fix it. If the gauge used is inaccurate then you might be fine. Not every manufacturer makes accurate gauges.

Does anyone know what the part is in the picture that I posted?

Looks similar to an electric solenoid choke piston/actuator for a carburetor, plus its linkage that should connect to the choke butterfly linkage?

              Is this 40 hp a 2 stroke (Dt40) or 4 stroke motor (Df40)?

              Best guess?

Good luck, post back on what you find out.

Ya I think you’re right from what we can tell that’s what it is. It is a 4 stroke ( thanks for your reply)
