Using a heat gun is good, but you will have to heat the top (1/3 of the column) hot enough to get the old dried grease to bubble. Once the dried up grease at the top starts to bubble (boil) the new grease will move it, it will take a good bit more time. Don't heat the bottom anymore just the top of shaft, the bottom is loose, work mostly on the top till it is hot enough.

Good luck, post back when able.

      thanx a lot
that is what I was thinking about.
I read that tilting down the engine on a block so that it will basically be pushed up would kind of free up the top a little bit. Thus the grease will more easely find a way up. (hop my english makes sense..)

I also read a guy drilled a hole at the top to add a zirk.

and as well this guy advising to first use penetreting lube to flush out old grease

Heat will do the trick but it must get hot enough to start boiling the old grease. Be careful putting too much weight on block. That lower unit is made of aluminum and can break. It is better to lift motor at lifting lugs on engine.

Good luck, post back when able.
